- Photo ID and address proof. A government-issued ID and proof of current address.
- Proof of employment or income. An offer letter, recent payslips or business registration.
- Previous landlord reference. Ask how rent was paid and how the property was left.
- Police verification. Complete tenant verification with the local police before move-in.
- A written rent agreement. Tamil Nadu's tenancy law expects tenancy agreements to be in writing and registered with the local Rent Authority.
- A move-in inventory. Dated photos of every room, fittings and meter readings, signed by both sides.
